A familiar civic building can stay useful after its original service moves elsewhere. Cedar Park has turned the former public library at 550 Discovery Boulevard into RE|CREATE, a community center focused on organized recreation and learning across generations.
The city marked its opening in July 2026. The remodeled facility includes multipurpose classrooms, flexible performance space and an indoor children’s play area. Programming spans interests such as dance, theatre, arts, fitness, educational enrichment and senior activities.

RE|CREATE is a program-based facility, so most activities require registration. Its current fall 2026 page lists limited business and playground hours: Monday and Friday mornings, with shorter late-morning-to-afternoon windows Tuesday through Thursday. Tours are by appointment. Read the live schedule before visiting rather than assuming it follows the library’s former hours.
Choose an activity from the current program listings, then check age range, fees, materials and registration requirements. The city also says the indoor play area is not staff-supervised, an important detail for caregivers planning a visit. The building’s new role offers a useful example of reuse: an existing community asset can support a different set of everyday needs without losing its place in residents’ routines.
